Research Data Scientist

Educational background

I completed a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in China, followed by a master’s degree in mathematics and statistics from the University of Ottawa.

My past accomplishments

At Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital, I work as a Research Data Scientist, supporting research using GEMINI inpatient data. As a lead analyst, I have conducted statistical analyses—from SQL data extraction and cohort development to modelling in R and SAS—for studies in ulcerative colitis and cancer survival, contributing to three peer-reviewed publications in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, JCO Oncology Practice, and the Journal of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology. I also serve as an ICES-appointed analyst, where I build patient cohorts and develop statistical models using GEMINI-ICES Linkage and ICES data.

Prior to joining GEMINI, I worked at IMBA Medical as a Data Analyst supporting a COVID-19 health screening platform, and have helped to improve customer data management efficiency by 80% and contributed to an 18% increase in revenue growth.

During my master’s studies, I collaborated with researchers from multiple disciplines on an epidemiological research project, and developed an algorithm to simulate data for investigating maternal, genetic, environmental, and pathway-related effects on birth defects.

When I feel most inspired

I feel most inspired when I know my work is helping people and has the potential to make a meaningful impact on the world.
